Le Pouce

When you think of Mauritius, few people think of hiking. However even in this respect, Mauritius has a lot to offer. Of course, you won't find here well-marked routes and high-altitude hikes, but you will definitely see beautiful views.

The trail to Le Pouce (812 m above sea level) starts behind the village of St. Pierre at 400 meters above sea level. The total elevation gain is therefore approx. 400 m. The length of the route is 5 km. Leave the car standing along the road (see map below).

Do this trek only if it is dry. There are a lot of rocks and stones on the route, which are very slippery when wet. We left in the morning, so the road was not only slippery but also muddy. 😁 And so we thought that we would slide down on the mud 😁 Fortunately, the road dried up a bit during the day, so we only had muddy shoes.πŸ‘πŸ™πŸ» But only Vojta went to the top itself. For safety's sake, we stayed in the meadow below the peak. The way to the very top is quite dangerous for children due to the risk of falling from the rocks, because the final part is really very steep. Even so, the girls and I enjoyed the beautiful views.

On the way down, we were then accompanied by a local guide - a dog - whom Lilinka named little Rex. He escorted us from the top to the parking lot, so the girls at least had a pleasant way down, and we rewarded Rex with a bowl of water and some treats at the car.

But why did we like the trek to Le Pouce so much? Due to the variety of the route and the beautiful views from about halfway. And if you are careful, go slowly, stick to the trees, you will enjoy this great trip even with children.

❕Always respect your children's abilities, only you know what they are capable of and how they behave in unexpected situations.πŸ™πŸ»
