Healthcare in Mauritius

None of us want to deal with health-related problems in a foreign country while on vacation, which is why it's always most important to have quality travel insurance! It is also a good idea to always find out in advance what level of health care is in the given country. Both international and national hospitals operate in Mauritius. We only have experience with a private international clinic that we can recommend to you.

After about 2 months in Mauritius, me and Lily caught inflammation of the tonsils. We visited the C-care Wellkin clinic located in the Moka area. We got a recommendation for this clinic, that's why we went there.

Specialists have to be booked in advance, which is why I went to the emergency room with Lily. And we did well. Everyone was very nice to us. After the admission process, a very nice young doctor took care of us. She examined us and gave us a prescription, which is always part of the medical report. For me it was clear antibiotics. She also prescribed antibiotics for Lily just in case the other medications didn't work. Fortunately, they worked.

Interestingly, most of the doctors are from India, Great Britain, France, etc. (or they graduated from medical schools in European powers). The hospital was wonderfully clean and there were water dispensers everywhere. Only the air conditioning wouldn't have to blow so much 😁.

We picked up the medicine in the very well-stocked pharmacy in the clinic building. We couldn't find just one medicine. Nowhere on the island. Only at one pharmacy, after many phone calls, they told us that this drug was out of stock. So we went to the clinic again in 2 days. And luckily, we caught our wonderful lady doctor again. She called a couple of specialists and prescribed us a new medicine. On that occasion, she performed a control examination for us - free of charge!

We were very satisfied with the C-care Wellkin clinic. Everything was perfect and they helped us a lot. The next larger branch is in Grand Baie, a smaller one in Tamarin and the oldest one in Darné. As for the pharmacies, the employees there always spoke English, were nice and always helped us.👍 We also got medicine for every problem we dealt with here (for children and adults), although not the same as in the Czech Republic.
